- Payment: accepted at time of service, personal check preferred though if this isn’t feasible, cash, and major credit cards are accepted.
- Attending your inspection: by all means clients should attend their inspection, unless out of town on business or buying a second home in Chicago. In most cases, for smaller homes the client should attend the entire inspection. However for homes with multiple levels, 3 or more baths, and/or larger than 2500 sq. ft., it’s often best for the inspector to start gathering information, and for the client to arrive a little later. Consult with us when scheduling.
- Children and the inspection: Whenever possible, please arrange daycare so that you can get as much information without interfering with the inspector’s workflow. We have furnace and electrical access panels open and are often closer to asbestos and lead in a basement than you would want your child to be.
- A knowledgeable family member or contractor/handy-person friend is often a great help for the client to understand the inspection findings, especially when the property is older and the client is inexperienced.
However it’s counterproductive to have too many people, especially energetic little people, attend the inspection. And if you’re going to have a decorator or contractor provide estimates at the inspection time, perhaps one client can be with the estimator and one client can be with the inspector. Please, no more than 2 people accompanying the inspector.
